Driving during possible floods:
  • Consider alternative routes out of or in to the village
  • Be aware of vulnerable neighbours to help
  • Driving in flood conditions
  • Do not enter water if you can’t tell depth of water or whether there is debris in the water - if in doubt DO NOT ENTER A FLOOD.
  • If you have to drive through flood, drive slowly, use a low gear and keep the engine revving at a high rate to avoid stalling (1st gear).
  • Test brakes after driving through water.
  • It takes twice as long to stop when braking on a wet road - drive slower and brake earlier.
  • If vehicle loses grip or aquaplanes take your foot off accelerator, don’t brake or steer.
  • Use dipped headlights.
