Improving the Street Scene in Bradford Abbas
With the wonderful restoration of the phone box, success of the little library and establishing the three planters, Churchwell Street has been enhanced alongside the pub.
Thanks to generous donations work is now in progress to clear and replant the area of “no mans land” by the entrance to the playing field. There is still more to be done there, and weeding and watering are ongoing requirements. Help would be appreciated – many hands make light work, and much can be achieved with great results – gardening with chums is fun and provides an opportunity to meet others and catch up with local news.
With a willing team of “weeders and planters” in future it would be great to target other untidy areas round the Village - perhaps we could even achieve Bradford Abbas in Bloom eventually!
Surplus plants and seeds would be gratefully accepted!

Telephone Box News
We hope that you enjoyed our Open Gardens afternoon. Thanks are due to so many people,
our keen gardeners who worked so hard, our brave badge and raffle ticket sellers who battled the elements with great good humour, our catering volunteers and cake makers, our printing team, our allotment holders etc. etc. Thank you to all of them.
A brilliant total of ÂŁ641 was raised which will go towards the replacement of some playing field equipment that our children so enjoy using. The true British Spirit prevailed as rain started two minutes past noon, just as we opened and then continued off and on all afternoon. However, nothing deterred our villagers from touring the beautiful gardens and taking tea, scones with jam and cream or cake under umbrellas as the rain continued to come down!! The raffle hamper was won by the mother of one of our local families.
(Editor’s note: A special thanks must go to Jenny for inspiring us all to take part and for organising such a successful event.)
Crime month proved to be very popular indeed. Thank you for all the books that you donated. At present we have a healthy stock of books and do not need any more until the autumn. For the summer we will have our usual wide range of categories and then in September we will have a cookery and hobbies theme. Thanks for your support.
The Telephone Box Team.

The Church That Rocks
Many thanks to everybody who came to enjoy a day in the sun with us last month. We'd like to send a special thank you to all the performers, to Brian Lock for lending us trailers for a stage, to Mill Farm Music for the loan a PA system and to all those who gave an hour or two or more to help us set up, to man the entry point, to deliver drinks, to help clear up Saturday night or Sunday morning or to do any of the other unglamorous jobs. We love staging our events but nothing would be possible without the help of so many of you.
With heartfelt thanks from
Jo, Alan, Rob, Ruth, Trevor and Gary

Bradford Abbas Gardeners’ Club
We will be holding an extraordinary general meeting on Wednesday 8th September at 2.30pm in the village hall. This is because the committee has come to the conclusion that the club is no longer viable with so few members. It is hoped all current members will be able to attend this meeting.
Milk Delivery
With the village shop now shut we have lost the help yourself milk machine. However, if you still have the bottles, we discovered Liberty Dairy near Halstock, a small organic farm, that delivers milk into our own bottles. They have provided the following details if anyone else might be interested in using the service. We have found the milk to be very nice. Lynne and Dick Bennett.
Liberty Dairy
The cows at Liberty Dairy are milked once a day in the morning. The milk is then immediately pasteurised, and we produce Whole Milk, Semi Skimmed and Cream. Milk will be delivered to your area in the afternoon/early evening twice a week, currently Monday and Thursday.
Milk costs ÂŁ1.30 per litre.
After your initial purchase, we will refill your clean bottles if you leave them on your doorstep on the allotted day. The bottles have a long life and can be used again and again. Before you put the bottle out for refilling, make sure the bottle and cap are cleaned in hot water. The bottles are dishwasher safe. We simply refill any clean, empty bottles put on the doorstep. Invoices are sent out monthly by email, with payment made by direct bank transfer or cheque. As well as milk we have a limited supply of super gorgeous organic cream, we can deliver to your door along with Free Range Eggs from WestLeaze farm in Dorset. Remember the milk you buy in the supermarket may be up to 10 days old when you purchase it. Our milk could not be fresher!

St.Mary’s Church
Glenfall Oct 2006 (a retreat House) -- Some thoughts on the limitations of Theology
I watched the sun go down on distant hills
The Glory of God in Gold, Rose Red, Blue and Green
Theology was spoken in that room
Words flew to and fro like jugglers’ props in a circus ring
The voices raised in skilful talk of God
But what was said I neither know nor care
They could not let go nor would they see
As you took my hand and showed me your Glory
In Gold, Rose Red, Blue and Green
When together we watched the sun go down on distant hills.
