Telephone Box News
Thank you to the many people who helped decorate the Telephone Box for the Jubilee and especially to volunteers including Simon for his amazing painting of the Queen, to Squish for her realistic corgis which she had painted in oils and cut out with a knife and to Mick Payne for his beautifully designed and hand-crafted plant container to commemorate the fallen in-front of the war memorial. Thanks to all our planting and watering team. We hope that you all enjoyed a memorable weekend.
There continues to be a wonderful selection of books thanks to your generosity.

BRADFORD ABBAS CELEBRATIONS
Congratulations to all those people in Bradford Abbas who decorated their homes and streets to put a smile on everyone’s face. Thanks to everyone who helped to make the weekend a success. The team spirit was just great. Thanks also go to everybody in the village who came out to support our Jubilee events. We estimate that about 300 people took part in the street party on Church Road on Friday 3rd June and, although some of them went home when the mid-afternoon rain hit, others came out for music in front of the church and then inside later in the afternoon and evening.
On Saturday, the Sports Club enjoyed a successful day and evening and then laid on a spectacular
thunderstorm to encourage people to stay until late. They then had about 50 people in for breakfast on Sunday morning. At the church, Sunday brunch came with a heart-warming walk down memory lane, sharing stories from the early decades of the Queen’s reign. Our raffle raised a good amount, meaning that a substantial donation can be made towards the cost of new playground equipment for the park.
Bradford Abbas Parish Council
I hope you will join the Parish Council in congratulating the Jubilee Celebration organisers for a wonderfully festive weekend. The village was looking very royal, decorated in red, white and blue along with scarecrows, pictures and paintings of the Queen, and of course the fantastic Corgis outside the telephone box. The Parish Council has planted a tree in the playing field dedicated to her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee. Many thanks to Rob Green for all his help. A plaque will be erected soon.

St Mary’s CE Primary School, Bradford Abbas
The summer term is always such an exciting time in the school calendar. We are so grateful to be hosting some school events that have been put on hold for the last couple of years, for obvious reasons!
June saw the return of our whole-school sports day, which was well supported by our families and friends. The sun shone down on us all, while the children ran, jumped, hopped and skipped their way down the track. Many thanks to all our parent ‘volunteers’ who helped during the races and then bravely took part in our parents’ race. You were all such good sports.
Our new Early Years children, who will be joining St Mary’s in September, have started their weekly visits to school; coming in to join Miss Langdon and Mrs Lockwood. It has been lovely to see their enthusiastic little faces, full of excitement, as they make themselves at home in our early years class and outdoor area.
Our PTA has been back in action selling ice creams, tattoos and face painting during village jubilee celebrations. This was a taster for the St Mary’s School Summer Fair, which is coming on Thursday 7th July, starting at 3.30 in the school grounds. Please come along and play games, buy cakes and support our fund-raising efforts. The PTA and the school would like to give a special mention to Lisa, from the Rose and Crown, who has supported our PTA in so many ways already this month. Thank you, Lisa, for all your help!
If you would like any further information about our wonderful school or to see some photos of our events, please visit our school website at www.bradfordabbasprimary.co.uk.
Many blessings from the staff and children at St Mary’s CE Primary School., Graham Simpson (Deputy Headteacher)
