Bradford Abbas Parish Council
Please note the September Ordinary Parish Council Meeting has been rescheduled for 4th October in the Village Hall. The Ordinary Parish Council Meeting scheduled for 1st November will now be held on the 8th November in the St Mary's Primary School Hall. The agendas will be available on the website (bradford-abbas.uk) and Church Road noticeboard.
Neighbourhood Plan Update
The Working Group met for its monthly meeting on Thursday 15th September, and we are pleased to report the following:
- that the consultation period on our application to designate the joint Neighbourhood Plan between Bradford Abbas and Clifton Maybank has now ended;
- that we should hear the outcome of the application this week from Dorset County Council;
- and that we should shortly be in receipt of funds from our Locality funding application.
Our next steps include deciding what to put in the actual Neighbourhood Plan document, so we really want and need to hear from YOU! Worried about the future of businesses in the village, like the pub and the defunct shop? Are you interested in preserving footpaths in the area? Have you got views about the bus service or road safety in our locality? Alarmed by the thought of future flooding around Smith’s Bridge?
Whatever your concerns, we would love to hear them so come along on 3rd November at 7:30pm to the Village Hall where we will be holding a Surgery to gather your views. We hope to see you there!

The ST MARY’S COMMUNITY TRUST team
Choir for the St Mary’s Christmas Carol Service
I gather that every year, folk who love to sing come together for a few weeks to form a choir that leads the Christmas Service of Lessons and Carols at St Mary’s Church. I have been asked to lead the choir in rehearsals, and would like to get an idea of numbers, and a possible rehearsal schedule.
So, whether you are a fine soprano reaching for descants, or a rusty but serviceable tenor, I would love to hear from you - and of course altos and basses! Please do get in touch with me, Jo Matthews, on 07802 839187 or drop me a line at mrsj.k.matthews@gmail.com

Telephone Box News
Thank you for all your generous donations of books during the summer. We hope that you enjoyed the blissfully hot summer days relaxing in a lounger with a cool drink and a good book. As usual we would be grateful for more books for children, as they simply fly off the shelves.
Our tribute in the phone box to her Majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth, was to express our grateful thanks for her devotion to her people for seventy years.
As we move into autumn our thoughts turn again to bulb planting. We would be very grateful for any donations of daffodil bulbs, small tete-a-tete bulbs, crocus or red tulip bulbs. These lighten everyone’s spirits after the long days of winter.
Thank you for all your support, the telephone box team

8th October: Photoshoot at Abbotsbury – Chesil Beach, The Fleet, Tropical Gardens, St Catherine’s Chapel, Abbey, and the village with thatched cottages, so lots of photo opportunities.
Tuesday 11th October: It has always been our intention to use Zoom whenever the opportunity arose to present an outstanding photographer from overseas someone who would otherwise be unavailable to us. This is such an occasion…… Inaki Hernández-Lasa FRPS FIPF AFIAP is an outstanding Spanish architectural
photographer originally from Bilbao, now resident in Limerick. Speaking to us via Zoom, he will be beamed into the village hall interacting directly with us. His iconic images of the world’s great architectural achievements including the Guggenheim in Bilbao and The Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA are world renowned. In his talk to us, titled ‘Architectural Photography, in search of the genius loci’ (the spirit of place), Inaki immerses himself in the architecture, interpreting what others have not seen, studying light, materials, and angles. In his powerful presentation he explains the concepts behind his images.
Tuesday 25th October: Bradford Abbas Shield Competition. There will be five digital images and five prints per club. The theme is ‘After Dark’ and will be judged by Malcolm Macnaughton

HARVEST AND PARABLES
Back in the spring, we had a special event in the church with various stations to tell parts of the Easter story. The children from our village school all came in and had a mini-lesson at each station. In the days before our Harvest service, we shall set up the church to tell some of Jesus’s parables and we will again welcome the schoolchildren in to share this with us.
