So What is Happening to the phone Box?
As you will have noticed, the phone box has been restored beautifully by Tony White and the Rose & Crown Skittles team. It now belongs to you, the village, as the Parish Council bought it from BT.
And so what next? A small committee has been meeting and formulating ideas for its future. These include: a book exchange with books stored on removable shelves; enabling the box to be used for other individual themed weeks e.g. a Pop-up Art week, a Village Life week, a Gardening Club week, a History of Bradford Abbas week, a Favourite or Old Recipe week etc.
The school children have offered to decorate the box with stained glass (coloured acetate) windows and a nativity scene for Christmas.
We also hope to enhance the area with flower planters and bulbs along the wall and we would appreciate ideas or offers of help or materials.
To start it all off, we are asking for books in good condition and hope to start the programme off with a book exchange opening on November 14th. We will follow Covid guidelines regarding cleaning the books and the box. Please leave books in the box as soon as possible. In these difficult times, a free, good book might be just what we need.
Thank you and do keep an eye out for further events.
