Following the Parish Council’s unsuccessful attempt to have Gollop's Ground designated a Village Green, the Chair and Vice Chair and two other residents met with the landowners on Friday 3rd September in Gollop's Ground.
The landowners rejected the Parish Council's proposal to lease or purchase the field for the continued use of the community.
Dorset Council would like your help, and have asked the Parish Council to circulate the following information.
As you may already be aware, the effects of the widely-reported national HGV driver shortage - coupled with the continuing impact of the pandemic - are starting to disrupt some of our waste services.
The Tuesday Afternoon Market will be held in the car park of the Rose and Crown from Tuesday 17th August.
Many thanks to Mark, the new landlord, who has also offered the use of the skittle alley for the market when the weather becomes more inclement.
A reminder to all to think about what we put in the waste bins in the Play Ground with a view to the guarding the safety of the children using it.
Particularly, please observe the signs and do not discard dog waste or used nappies there and instead use other waste bins outside the Play Ground.

You may know that the Parish Council was asked by members of the public present at the Ordinary Parish Council Meeting of June 1st 2021 to apply to Dorset Council to have Gollop’s Ground registered as a Village Green since, in the terms of the Commons Act, the field had been used as one for as long as anyone can remember and as far as we know, at least from the 1880’s.
Parishioners may wish to see the correspondence between the Parish Council and the landowner here.
The Bradford Abbas Ultrafast Community Project pledge target has been achieved.
The government will now pay for the premises of residents who pledged to be connected to the exchange by fibre optic cable since enough have now committed to the Bradford Abbas Ultrafast Community Project.
On Monday several of the Parish Council and our County Councillor, Robin Legg, met with the owner of Gollup’s Ground who is now fully aware of the depth of feeling in the village about the erection of the fence and the importance we place on the amenity of the field and especially access to the river.
